It’s A Snap

When you play with a yo-yo, snap a wet towel or crack a whip, you need to time the motion perfectly, slightly before the full extension of the towel, whip or yo-yo.

In tennis, because the racquet is a rigid object, you need to work with your arm.  You don’t need to extend it fully, only as far as to ensure finding the ball.

But you need to pull the hand towards you, towards the finish of your stroke a tiny instant before contact with the ball to have a maximum effect.
